Frequently asked questions
What the free plan actually includes, what the paid plans cost, where the machines are, and the rules that get a server suspended. Every figure below is the one we run on.
Plans, pricing and limits
Is Waifly hosting really free?
Yes. The free plan costs €0 and requires no credit card and no PayPal account. It gives you 300 MB of RAM, 1 GB of storage, one server and one MySQL database, with CPU capped at 30%. Backups and access to the Pterodactyl panel are included. It is not a trial: there is no expiry date, though a free server is subject to the anti-abuse rules below and is suspended after 3 days offline.
What do the paid plans cost and what do they include?
Three monthly plans, billed monthly and auto-renewing:
- Nano — €4/month: 4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU, 20 GB storage, 1 backup, 2 ports, 1 MySQL database, priority support.
- Mega — €8/month: 8 GB RAM, 3 vCPU, 50 GB storage, 1 backup, 5 ports, 3 MySQL databases, free subdomain with SSL.
- Giga — €16/month: 16 GB RAM, 4 vCPU, 100 GB storage, 2 backups, 10 ports, 10 MySQL databases, free subdomain with SSL.
An extra server slot costs €1/month. If none of these fit, the Perso plan lets you describe your project, your budget and the duration you need, and we quote a tailored setup.
How much does Minecraft server hosting cost on Waifly?
Three Minecraft plans: Starter €4, Advanced €8 and Pro €16 per month. All include DDoS protection and a 99.9% uptime target; Starter includes 1 backup and Pro includes 2. You pick the server type when ordering: Vanilla, Paper, Forge, Fabric, Spigot/Sponge or BungeeCord.
Can I upgrade or cancel later?
Yes. Subscriptions are managed from My Subscriptions in the dashboard, where you can also download invoices as PDF. Cancelling stops the renewal — note that the server attached to the subscription is suspended when the subscription ends, so move your data out first if you need it.
What you can host
Which languages and runtimes does Waifly support?
You choose a runtime ("Egg") when creating a server: Node.js, Python, PHP, Java, Bun, Rust, C# and Web/Nginx. A one-click WordPress install is available too. If your language is not in the list, you can request a new Egg through support.
Can I host a Discord bot 24/7 for free?
Yes — a Discord bot in Node.js or Python runs fine within the free plan's 300 MB of RAM, and servers run continuously. Two things to know: the free plan forbids VPNs, proxies and tunnels, and a server that stays offline for 3 days is suspended automatically. If you would rather not write the bot yourself, BotForge builds one from a wizard — name, token, prefix, modules and embed colour, in 9 languages — with a €3 Premium tier for the advanced command modules.
Do I get root or SSH access?
No. Servers run in containers managed by the Pterodactyl panel, not as full virtual machines, so there is no root account and no SSH shell. You do get a live console, an online file manager, SFTP access for clients like FileZilla, MySQL databases, scheduled tasks and backups.
Can I use my own domain name?
Yes. Point your domain's A record at the Waifly server IP, then declare the domain and its target on the domain management page — an Nginx reverse-proxy configuration is generated automatically. Mega and Giga plans also include a free Waifly subdomain with SSL.
Infrastructure and reliability
Where are Waifly servers physically located?
In Paris, France, across two nodes named FR1 and FR2. Each node runs an Intel Xeon Gold 6138 (10 cores / 20 threads) with 48 GiB of ECC RAM and a 512 GB NVMe SSD, on Debian with Proxmox and Docker. You pick the location when you create a server.
What uptime does Waifly actually achieve?
99.9% over the last 30 days, measured continuously and published live on the home page and on status.waifly.com. The figure is the real measurement, not a contractual target.
Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan including the free one. Waifly Guard combines network-level DDoS filtering with software protection to keep servers reachable during an attack.
Rules, suspension and data
Why was my server suspended, and can I get it back?
Server status is checked daily and a server is suspended after 3 days offline, or immediately for a terms-of-service breach. What happens next depends on the server's age:
- Created less than 7 days ago: deleted after 3 days of suspension.
- Older: kept for 15 days after suspension and recoverable from backups.waifly.com.
If it is not blacklisted, you can reactivate it yourself at unsuspend.waifly.com by pasting the panel link. Otherwise, open a support ticket.
What is not allowed on the free plan?
VPNs, proxies and tunnels of any kind, and obfuscated code. One account per person is also enforced — recovering access when duplicate accounts are detected involves a €1 manual verification fee. An automated inspection runs every 30 minutes.
Is my code private?
Hosted code is scanned automatically for security purposes, with
.env files excluded from that scan. As set out in the
terms of service, some account data (name, email, IP, location) may be shared with
third-party technical providers, which can involve transfers to the United States.
The full detail is in the privacy policy.
Account, payment and support
How do I create an account?
On dash.waifly.com, with a username of at least 4 alphanumeric characters and a password of at least 6 characters — or in one click with Discord, Google or Apple. No payment method is requested for the free plan.
Why do I have two different passwords?
Because the dashboard account (dash.waifly.com) and the Pterodactyl panel account (panel.waifly.com) are independent, each with its own password. Changing one does not change the other. You can reset the panel password without leaving the dashboard, from Account → "Reset Panel Password".
Which payment methods are accepted?
Card via Stripe, PayPal, lava.top and cryptocurrencies, plus gift cards and promo codes redeemable from the dashboard. The free plan needs no payment method at all. See payment methods for the current list.
How do I get help, and how fast is the answer?
Three channels from the dashboard's Support form: a ticket (usually the fastest), email, or a public post on the community forum. Support is staffed 24/7, and paid plans get priority. The documentation covers most setup questions, and there is also a Discord server.
Still stuck?
The documentation goes into more detail, the community forum is public and searchable, and support answers 24/7 from the dashboard.
